Salt Lake Community College has many location spread all over Salt Lake County and surrounding territories. A lot of local kids will take a couple courses there while still in Highschool to help complete some concurrent enrollment. Their biggest campus besides their main one is called the Jordan Campus which is right in West Jordan, Utah. It has many buildings and a lot of land, enough to have a baseball field and bleachers there. It’s a really nice campus with a lot of greenery everywhere and flowers in the spring. One of their buildings is dedicated to Health and Physical fitness and I found myself spending a lot of time there one particular semester. I thought I would be bold and try a really early morning fitness class. Sounds like a good idea with good intentions right? Yeah, well apparently I didn’t think it though having to go to “Boot Camp” 3 times a week at 6:30am. I don’t love mornings as it is, but having to get ready and get out of the house to get to a class where attendance was of course required was not ideal. It turned out to be a little more difficult than I had originally imagined.

Thankfully at the time I didn’t live very far from campus. I was living on the border of South and West Jordan so my commute time there was only around 10 minutes. I really just had to get on 9000 S and cross Bangerter Highway. There was generally not a lot of traffic at that time of day. There is Jordan Valley Hospital right across the street from the Salt Lake Community College Jordan Campus, but the traffic from that didn’t really start until 8:30 or 9. About halfway through the semester I debated dropping the boot camp class. It was just too early and too much of a pain to have to wait an hour and a half until my next class which was in a different building. I thought that gap would be a great time for me to get all my homework done, but instead it just turned into nap time since I was so tired all the time from waking up that early.

I talked to my teacher and explained that I was debating dropping the class and he said that he would be sad to see me go but it wouldn’t be a huge deal because it wasn’t a required class, but since I was outside of the withdrawl dates that the grade would just show an incomplete or a bad grade essentially. That I was not excited about. I thought about it for a little while and decided not to drop the class. It wasn’t worth it to have that bad mark on my transcript. So I kept waking up every morning and driving to West Jordan to the Salt Lake Community College that I didn’t love to see before the sun came up. It paid off in the end and I actually ended up loving the class. However, I will never take another super early morning class.
